Jaque Fragua

Head shot of SODO Track artist Jaque Fragua.

Jaque Fragua seeks to connect past, present, and future through his modern take on traditional Native American design. Growing up in Jemez Pueblo, New Mexico, and traveling the world since, Jaque embodies movement in his art, bringing his family’s history to bear in each environment he paints.

In Giant Steps he brings Native American dance movements to SODO Track. The painting’s symbols and colors reflect a “mixture of tribal accoutrement utilized during ceremonial events, often in motion.” This motion creates distinct visual experiences for participants and observers, both in dances of the past and in current tribal communities who carry indigenous culture forward.
