Gage Hamilton, a Portland based artist, creates site-specific works often informed by history and place. Abstract and esoteric, his murals feature a collection of symbolic references layered nonsensically to build feeling rather than narrative.
In addition to serving as Lead Artist and Curator for SODO Track, Gage painted Fortune Lies Hidden In The Mud!, a mural that draws inspiration from pre-development advertisements promoting purchase of the Tidal Flats that would eventually be known as SODO. His colorful aquatic collage alludes to the neighborhood’s past, present and future in regards to environment, industry, development, housing. It further addresses notions of progress and hope.
