Joe Nix, a prolific Seattle muralist, often paints realistic subjects in settings that combine the local and the imaginative.

 

For SODO Track, a figure is set in Seattle’s modern tech landscape. Set in conversation with a scene due north by Baso Fibonacci and Jean Nagai, the artwork confronts us with the Seattle artist’s dilemma: stay and work within the city’s changing landscape, industry, and culture, or accept that the city once known is gone and move on? This dichotomy is expressed through hot and cool tones, and in Joe’s case, the artist stands her ground while adopting and adapting new industry and technology, seeking authenticity and innovation in the city she knows.
