Kristen Ramirez

Kristen Ramirez, a Seattle based artist, draws on signs and symbols of commerce and our built environment to create artworks that shift our daily experiences and perspectives. In her public practice, a focus on place conjures an affection for disorienting urban/suburban environments that are at once everyday, unsightly, and slightly deteriorating.

In Human Frailty, Kristen draws on the architectural lines of a low-rise light industrial building that served as her canvas, to create a pattern of color that conveys motion. Working with a limited palette to mimic colors found in traffics signal operations, her striped, diagonal pattern propels the viewer through space with complimentary colors that appear to vibrate in their juxtaposition.
